Spring Fever

Just a few pictures I'm obsessed with loving from the last few weeks...

6 month update

I can't believe Kendall is already 6 months old! Everyone warned told us it would, but never did I think it would be going this fast. She will be a toddler before we know it! I'm not ready for that! I am trying to enjoy every moment with her, and it seems like every day, there is another milestone that she is passing. Here are a few of her 5-6 month highlights.

- Rolling everywhere. We can no longer leave her on a mat to play while we try to do anything. She will roll right off, and in to the cabinets, entertainment center, etc. (not like any of that every happened...ya right)
- Loves her bouncer. More like obsessed. She can be in this thing for 20 minutes and be happy as can be. Not so happy when you take her out...
- Has two teeth. These bad boys came in back to back, but you wouldnt have known from how happy she was. She was a drooly mess, but still her usual happy self.
- Eating solids. See my post HERE about how we are feeding her, etc. So far, Kendall has had Sweet Potatoes, Yams, Carrots and Peas, as well as Avacados, Bananas, Apples and Pears. Waiting for her in the freezer are Green Beans, Apricots, and Mango. I love introducing her to new foods and watching her facial expressions during the first spoonfulls - classic baby faces!
- Up on all fours. This girl will be crawling before we know it! This is more of a recent development since she turned 6 months.
- Sitting up assisted. Kendall can tripod like a champ, but isnt quite sitting up on her own. She has great core strength and control though, so it wont be long!
- Laughing. Is there any sounds more amazing than a baby laughing?! Didn't think so. This little girl is just full of baby giggles. She loves when we tickle her tummy, and blow on to it also. I could listen to her laugh for hours.

6 Month Stats:
- 15.5lbs
- 25 3/4"
50% percentile for height, weight and head circumference.

Our Life of Late

Things have been pretty crazy for us lately. We are still waiting to close on both houses (the one we are buying and the one we are selling). It's a waiting game, but then seems like everything happens all at once and we are scrambling. We had a fun weekend - went to dinner the three of us on Friday night - Kendall LOVES Chevy's happy hour. Girl after my own heart! Saturday was pretty mellow. We hung out at home, took a long walk, and then dropped her off with her amazing nanny, Mary Kay, and went to dinner and a play with my parents. We had to leave the show a bit early though due to my milk pouring coming in. Fun times! Luckily we have another mellow weekend on the books. David is on spring break next week- lucky guy! I think I am going to take Good Friday off to spend with my two favorites.

Best. Picture. EVER

Making Baby Food

I have to admit, I knew I wanted to make Kendall's baby food, but I was a bit skeptical about the whole thing. Its a little nerve racking to know that I am responsible for her nutrition, food preferences, pickiness, etc. Making her baby food turned out to be much easier than I thought, fun, and rewarding (I realize I sound like a commercial right now...). I was lucky enough to get a Beaba Baby Cook food maker at one of my baby showers, and it has made this process much easier than I ever thought. We started Kendall on baby cereal at about 4 1/2 months and she hated every bit of it! We then switched from rice cereal to baby oatmeal, and she still hated it. So, we kept her on her liquid diet. Fastforward to 5 1/2 months, and baby girl could not get enough of that stuff! After about 4 days of oatmeal at night time, we did avocado mixed with breast milk for a few days, and then tried bananas. She loved both. I started with these two items because 1) we had them on hand already, and 2) I had read that both were great to start with because they required no cooking, just mashing, and are both great sources of fat, nutrients, etc. Once we maxed out on those two food items, I went to the grocery store and picked up carrots, sweet potatoes, apples and pears. In total, I spent about $10, and 1 hour prepping, prepparing and storing all four foods. I followed along in my recipe book that came with the Beaba Baby Cook, and was able to make enough for 2+ weeks of food for Kendall (she gets a veggie at night time and a fruit in the morning mixed in with a bit of baby oatmeal for texture and consistency). This weekend, I spent another $8, and one hour making apricots, peas and string beans. It has been a fun adventure feeding her new foods, and a bit scary when you go to change their poopy diaper after the first few new solids you introduce!

Here are a list of my "must haves" when it comes time to make your own baby food.

1) Bibs - any bib will do, but how adorbs are these?!
2) Bowls - great because they suction down and come with lids. Great to throw in your diaper bag and go
3) Spoons - perfect for baby's little mouth, and as an added bonus, will keep your baby entertained while you are trying to get their food ready and they are pissed because it isnt in their mouth, NOW.
4) Multiportion storage tray - use this to freeze single portion sizes, and pop out as needed
5) Reheat jar - place frozen, prepared baby food in here, and put it all in to the baby cooker and steam to reheat baby food
6) Beaba Baby Cooker - a MUST for any mom/dad wanting to make baby's food

First Family Vacay

We took Kendall on her first family vacay this weekend. It was perfect timing - we were able to have our home open all weekend to potential buyers (yes, we are selling! And in turn, moving to a bigger house), without having to worry about getting all the baby shit cleaned up before viewers came by, try to arrange our schedule, etc.
anywho! We left Thursday afternoon after David got off work, and after a mad scramble to make sure the house was in tip top shape, we hit the road. Kendall did great for the first hour or so, then started to lose her shit. Baby girl wanted out of the car! I finally caved and got in the back seat with her. After an unsuccessful bout of trying to breastfeed her while she was still in her car seat (yes you read that right) , baby cakes finally took her paci and snoozed the rest of the way. Our first night at the house, we had dinner with our hosts for the weekend, put the kiddos to bed, and enjoyed some drinks and snacks.
Here are some iPhone pics from the weekend so far

Starting solids

This has been quite the journey for us. We got the go ahead from our ped to try rice cereal at Kendall's 4 month appt, but it constipated her like no other. Plus, she wasn't that in to it (and there is no redeeming value to it(. So onto oatmeal we went. Tried that for a few days, and while her system handled it, again she wasn't that in to it. So we let it be for a few weeks, and started up again at 5 months. What a world of difference! She really took to it this time. We did oatmeal for about a week, an hour before her nighttime bottle, and then last Thursday, I moved oatmeal to her morning feeding, and we tried avocado that night. She did great with it the first night, but the last few nights have been a little hit or miss. It doesn't help that she has her first cold. I'm sure you can just picture me spooning the avocado in to her mouth, just to have her cough in my face and get the green goo all over herself, my five, Andy white shirt.
She's totally adorable in these pictures!

Summertime Swag

I wish summer was right around the corner, but it looks like we will have to endure a few more weeks/months of cold weather. We had a few days last week of near 70 degree days, and it was such a tease! I can't wait to pull out all my summer clothes that I couldn't wear last year (what with being pregnant and all), and even more than that, I can't wait to buy Kendall a whole new baby summer time wardrobe!
Jean Shorts - umm how adorbs are these?! Kendall will be getting these for this summer
Baby Espadrilles - I'm dying for these right now. They probably wont stay on her feet for shit, but they are precious.

Gap Romper - Kendall got this for her baptism from family friends. It is super soft and the perfect piece for warm spring days and summer nights. Can't wait for babycakes to wear this!

White polka dot hat - practical and cute!

Jelly Sandals - every babe needs a pair!

Striped Swim Suit - this is only one of many swim suits baby girl will have. We spend so much time out by our pool in the summer time that she has to have a ton :) (do you like that rationalization right there?)

White Romper - there are no words.

Baby Sperrys - her daddy has a slight obsession with Sperry's, so it's only fitting that she have at least one pair

Yellow sunnies - I really wish they made baby ray bans, but these are a cute alternative!
